Lazer Dorks

Real Genius

So what we got here with Real Genius is a really genius movie. To simply describe it, it's basically about this secret project called "Crossbow," which is a flying space craft with the ability to shoot a laser at a human target from outer space. The work crew doesn't quite know how to create a laser powerful and accurate enough to do this, so they secretely get in touch with a science college teacher (or "professor" to you humans out there) and the teacher gets his finest students to work on a laser project that they don't know what will be used for. One of these students, Mitch, happens to be a student who was promoted from only the age of 15 due to his incredible intelligence. Mitch's room mate is Chris Knight (Val Kilmer); one of the smartest students in the history of the campus. But things are different for Chris now that he is a senior. Instead of still trying to exceed in graduating, he has loosened up, a bit too much and wants to teach Mitch to loosen up as well. And basically from there it's just 80's goodness of the crew trying to build this laser and also party with Chris at the same time.

Yes this movie is about lasers. How could a site called LaZer Dorks NOT have a review for this movie? And hey the lasers in this movie are pretty cool! Not only are the lasers are cool, but so is Val Kilmer's hair! This isn't the best cheesy movie I have ever seen, though it is one of my favorites. I mean it has plenty of sweet cheesy stuff to pick up on, but it can't quite compare to say a movie with Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. Neverless it's a definitely a must see and maybe even a must own for some of you, especially if you appreciate a rad 80's soundtrack like I, which includes the Tears for Fears hit "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" which plays during this scene where the crew... well I suppose I shouldn't spoil that since it's one of the best scenes in the movie.

I should also mention that there are quite a few fan sites for this movie. There is this one site that even had tons of soundclips of various lines in the movie like "Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun god robes on a pyramid with women screaming and throwing little pickles at you?" Along with all the songs in the movie because there was never an officially released soundtrack! Of course I'm not going to post the link. I'm leaving now because things are getting a little weird around here, you know? Be sure to check out this great cheese flick!
