Munchie

From the description on the back of the DVD case:

"No friends. School stinks. And Mom (Loni Anderson) is in love with a sleazy lawyer (Andrew Stevens). Pretty bleak. That's how life looks to ten-year-old Gage (Jaime McEnnan) when into his world pops the magical MUNCHIE (Dom DeLuise). MUNCHIE is a mysterious creature from another world who delivers flying pizzas and brings on parties! With the help of MUNCHIE and loonie Professor Cruikshank (Arte Johnson), Gage has the greatest summer ever!

A laugh packed adventure that will leave everyone with a magical feeling!"

Munchie is a hilarious, warm, and magical movie that anyone can enjoy! Oh I also forgot to mention that Munchie is downright CHEESY! I'd first like to mention here that Munchie has an all star line up cast: large-headed boy Jaime McEnnan, WKRP's Loni Anderson, sassy and sleek along with being one of my heroes, Andrew Stevens, TV classic Arte Johnson, Adolf Hitler look-a-like Ace Mask, and even future-to-be Part of Five member Jennifer Love Hewitt (Listed as "Love Hewitt" in the Munchie credits). Oh and of course, the warm, wonderful, funny man Dom DeLuise as the voice of MUNCHIE! With a cast line up as this one, you're sure to have a successful film!

When I think about it, there is nothing really wrong with Munchie, it's just one of those perfect cheesy movies. Dom DeLuise is absolutely perfect as the voice of MUNCHIE and throws in a joke in every line he has in the movie! Not to mention that the puppet work for Munchie is so funny how it's crappily done because his animation usually only consists of him standing there, moving his eyes and twitching his hands left and right like a kid with fetal alcohol syndrome. The comedy in this movie is just really terrific in this movie and it's something that a person would have to see to truely enjoy the cheese of this title.

I should also talk about Andrew Steven's role in Munchie. First off, Andrew Stevens just plain rules and his role in Munchie is no exception. Stevens plays a doctor in this movie and his first appereance is him coming out of his nice sports car wearing a 80's sports suit and then giving main character Gage Dobson's mother a sexy, 80's business man kiss while giving Gage a look. Stevens is loaded with style, hilarious lines, and face poses that are to-die-for (take a look at the screenshot)! I don't know if there is a somewhat large Andrew Stevens fanbase or not, well more than likely not, but this is his best role that I have seen him in... which is only two different roles I believe. But regardless of how non-popular he is, his character is one of the best in cheesy movie history! Hey come to think of it, I said Andrew Stevens is a doctor in this movie, which he really is in the movie, but the DVD case description claims he is a "sleazy lawyer" instead, as mentioned earlier in the review. I guess whomever wrote it just wasn't a fan of the movie like us here at LaZer Dorks.

If anyone wants to see this movie, I highly recommend buying it. Like most New Concorde movies, their movies are always very cheap, like around $5. Munchie can be bought from Overstock for only $6.63, but I believe I payed like $5 straight on "Munchies" (plural), don't expect a sequel from Munchie (non-plural). In though the VHS case for Munchie says "The ever hungry and funny Munchie is back in this sequel to "Munchies"", it's not a sequel at all. Munchies was a horror Gremlins knock-off and Munchie is a magical, family, kid's movie. If I studied Munchies enough, there might be some kind of connection with Munchie because the opening to Munchie certainly gives you a clue as to how it could be a sequel, even though it's still nothing like Munchies in anyway. Also Munchie Strikes Back is a true sequel to Munchie (non-plural) and it's absolutely excellent for the first maybe ten-to-fifteen minutes, but it gets terrible after that, especially since Head of the Class' Mr. Moore, Howard Hesseman, does the voice for Munchie this time instead of Dom DeLuise! So stay away from Munchies and Munchie Strikes Back and just stick to Munchie.
