Perfect.
Keranu has seen many movies, especially of the 80's variety. There have been golden film moments for me like Microwave Massacre and solid poop ones like MURDERCYCLE. There was a time where it would've been too hard and useless for me to name my favorite movie. Now thanks to our own LaZer Dork staff member, vectorben, I can finally name my favorite movie - "adventure of kool-ade".
adventure of kool-ade is a short film about a nameless character (played by vectorben) who is destined on an adventure - an adventure to capture a green bucket. Along his way, this character sneaks out of a house, runs through fields, explores a forest, and more before his trip ends. Despite the title name, this movie doesn't really have anything to do with the famous Kool-Aid powder drink, though I've been told from the writer/director that the green bucket is suppose to carry Kool-Aid.
While this may seem like a simple, pointless movie, it actually has more depth than any movie I have ever seen. There seem to be lots of hidden messages presented in this film, some of which I can't even explain or figure out. The beautiful thing about this movie is that it takes all of this depth, but presents it in a simplistic manner. It's like closely examining a fruit such as an orange; deep inside it's made from a complex structure but from a distance it's only a small sphere. It takes a master in order to create such a feat and vectorben has accomplished it with pure ease.
On a visual side, adventure of kool-ade is an artistic vision to behold. What starts off inside a dark, gloomy house expands outside and explores Earth's lovely features. It seems to me that the further the character runs away from the modern home, he discovers more of nature's essence and the film presents this magnificently. Each step takes this character closer to a forest and farther away from synthetic scenery. By the time he arrives in the forest, he is one with the planet with no man-made inventions in sight. adventure of kool-ade is simply a stunning piece of art.
The movie features one music track and that is Cat Steven's "Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard". As to why the director chose this song, I'm not sure and frankly, I don't care because there would be no better song to fit this movie. The song plays as the character runs through the grassy lands, which is one of the best scenes of the movie. It just sounds so hilarious and is a perfect match, a real stroke of genius. What really gave me a huge thrill of laughter was how the song repeats later on. You'd be amazed as to how much the lyrics of the song sticks to your mind as well!
With all it's hidden messages aside, there is one main message adventures of kool-ade presents to it's audience and that's to enjoy life. Nature is like a string, fine and straight. Money, school, and work only ties knots to this wonderful string and that is why such irrelevant things are no where to be found in this movie. I see a bright future of film making ahead for vectorben, though I feel nothing can overcome kool-ade's eccentric, yet down to earth presence. adventure of kool-ade is beauty, freedom, and most importantly, fun.
