Flyin' Ryan
"The Sky's the Limit" in this action-packed movie which made legendary history in my life! Flyin' Ryan is without-a-doubt the cheesiest movie that I have ever encountered! There have been many other movies that I have considered the cheesiest, such as Monkey Shines, Munchie, or A Kid in Aladdin's Palace, but none of these movies can hold a fondue fork to this brick of cheese. Who would've thought a cheesy movie made in 2003 could have such strong cheese?
Okay, this movie is great. It's like getting a big, old fondue bowl out that has never been washed before and putting in every cheese known to man in it to melt all together with a dash sugar. It's made my New Concorde and if you're a fan of the company, you know the basic kid's movie plot - new kid in town with only one parent. Mom or dad either died or divorced and has a bully. The hot girl has a crush on the new kid and she has only one parent as well and both the new kid and girl's parents fall in love at the end of the movie. During the movie, there is usually some kind of magical object in the movie, whether it is a party creature or a talking skateboard.
In this case, it's a 12-year old boy named Ryan and he and his mom move into crazy Aunt Rita's house where Ryan takes the role as the new kid in town. In this town lives a bully named Dirk Cooper, who is the leader of the town's skateboard gang. Dirk doesn't like this new kid and so of course, he picks on Ryan. When Ryan thinks he won't have any friends, there is a nice girl named "Nikki" who ends up saving Ryan's life in a drowning scene with her dog "Mugsy."
Now that Ryan has his friends and enemies, his crazy Aunt Rita always has something wacky up her sleeve. You see, every morning when Ryan gets up, it seems Aunt Rita seems to leave old presents for Ryan on his breakfast chair. One morning, Aunt Rita left him a pair of "Heelys" with cool reflectors to put on the back.
What are Heelys? So glad you asked! Heelys are brand of shoes! Not any ordinary shoes, but cool shoes with wheels on the heels! You can flip the wheel in or out any time you want to! Not only can you have fun "heeling" around, but also you could get to places faster by using the wheels! Take it from Andy Weiss who plays "Ryan" in this film, he's a Heelys pro! To learn more about Heelys, go to Heelys.com!!
Anyways back to the review. What Ryan doesn't know is that these belonged to his grandfather "Theodore Magoogan Maguire" and there is a magical presence within the shoes. Also I should mention that Ryan's Heelys were dirty and didn't have any wheels! No problem, Nikki takes Ryan on her paddleboat and they go to an old town across the lake that might have some wheels. In this old shop, there is a mysterious man who sells old goods and Ryan asks for some wheels. While this man doesn't have new wheels, he happens to have some used wheels that perfectly fit in Ryan's Heelys! Alllright! Now Ryan can Heely his way around town!
When Ryan and Nikki got back to town to play around with Ryan's Heelys, Dirk Cooper and his gang show up and ruin the fun! Dirk doesn't appreciate Ryan having Heelys and so him and his gang decide to go on long chase for Ryan! This is the BEST part of the movie, so I'll try not to spoil it! When Ryan is trapped at a cliff and can't turn back, his Heelys start to sparkle and Ryan glides across the sky and lands on the other side of the cliff! A really amazing experience!
So that's pretty much the beginning of the story. However the main plot doesn't come till later where Ryan and Nikki find a dirty, little dog that Dirk ends up stealing! Dirk tries selling the dog to his cousin's mine factory to use as a guard dog! So silly! So Ryan must fly his way there and save his dog Theo! Remember Ryan; The Sky's the Limit!
This is fantastic piece of cinema and should be watched by everyone that visits this site! Flyin' Ryan has loving characters, a heart warming storyline... and special flying effects that will drop you dead to the floor laughing your ass off! It's a real cheap film and actually has a DVD with a decent amount of special features! From a company that makes six-dollar DVDs with no features, I am truly impressed with the DVD! Between rent or buy, you're definitely going to want to buy this one; I can guarantee it's worth the 6-8 dollar purchase.
